Budapest.

Grand interiors. Riverside walks.

Start in Pest with St Stephen’s Basilica, then leave time for the Danube and the streets around it. Separate your church visit from a longer day on the Buda side, and choose ticket options around the areas you want to explore.

Our suggestion: 1–2 hours

Plan the sequence

Budapest in one or two days

Keep each day focused on one side of the river. These suggested routes leave space for breaks and changing weather.

One day

Basilica first, riverside afterwards

Explore the church and add the terrace and treasury if you want the full visit. Pause for lunch before walking towards the Danube and Chain Bridge. On Sundays, put the church visit after lunch.

Compare basilica tickets

Two days

Give Buda a separate day

Use the first day for central Pest. On day two, explore the streets and viewpoints of the Castle District on the Buda side. Treat museum interiors as separate ticket decisions and allow extra time for hills and steps.

Rain or children

Keep the indoor visit short and focused

In wet weather, centre your basilica visit on the church and treasury. With children, pick a few details to spot, take a break on the square, and make the terrace an optional extension rather than a fixed requirement.
