History: Nasoni’s landmark above Porto
Designed by Nicolau Nasoni for the Brotherhood of Clerics, the tower was built from 1754 to 1763. Its Baroque form became a defining feature of Porto’s skyline.
The restored complex reopened in 2014 with a museum. Former Brotherhood rooms now place the viewpoint in a wider cultural setting, rather than making the visit only a climb.
Why visit Clérigos?
Choose Clérigos for a combination of city views and an indoor collection. It suits visitors who enjoy looking at a city from above and then examining the objects and rooms below.
Our advice is to value the museum independently of the weather. If a clear skyline photograph is your only reason to book, consider keeping your timing flexible instead of committing your one free hour before checking conditions.
Tickets and entry options
The checked Ticketory Tower & Museum product includes tower access, the Irmandade dos Clérigos and Christus collections, and temporary exhibitions. Its inclusion list does not promise a live guide, audio guide or transport. Do not interpret the page’s general promotional queue wording as a guarantee of immediate entry.
For evening visits, the venue advertises a tower-only option on special seasonal dates. Do not assume a daytime ticket includes an evening visit. Check that your selected ticket explicitly covers the evening date and tower access.
| Option | Includes | Know before booking |
|---|---|---|
| Tower & Museum entry (opens in a new tab) | Tower, Irmandade dos Clérigos and Christus collections, temporary exhibitions. | Check the chosen daytime slot. No live guide, audio or transport confirmed in the inclusion list. |
| Seasonal evening tower visit | Tower visit on the venue’s advertised special dates. | Not a museum substitute. A separate Ticketory product has not been verified; do not buy the daytime product expecting evening access. |
Ticket price: check the selected option
Ticketory’s page shows both a starting price and age-based amounts. We do not turn that headline into a fixed adult price: choose the visit date and all travellers to see the payable total. Compare cancellation terms and inclusions at the same time.
The venue lists free admission for children aged ten and under. Confirm the selected seller’s child-reservation requirements before arriving; a free child rate does not tell you whether a booking document is needed.
Opening hours
Normal opening is 09:00–19:00, with last entry 30 minutes before closing. Easter, summer and Christmas periods can extend to 23:00; this is not a year-round evening timetable.
The published holiday exceptions are 09:00–14:00 on 24 and 31 December, and 11:00–19:00 on 25 December and 1 January. Check date-specific notices and your ticket before travelling.
How to get there
The address is Rua de São Filipe de Nery, 4050-546 Porto. The venue identifies São Bento and Aliados as nearby metro stations.
Our suggested sequence is to pair the tower with Livraria Lello, then leave a flexible break before heading towards the river. Start with whichever reservation has the stricter entry time. Check your route for slopes rather than assuming a short map distance means an easy approach.
Highlights: more than the view
The tower rises 75 metres, with 225 steps to the top. The view takes in Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia across the Douro. Inside, the museum brings together painting, sculpture, furniture, textiles and metalwork.
Use the collection as part of the visit rather than passing through every room on the way up. Our suggestion is to choose a few objects that interest you, read their labels and then take the climb at your own pace.
Entry, access and practical tips
The venue offers an accessible route and a multisensory alternative recreating the tower view. This does not establish step-free access to the summit; confirm which areas are suitable for your needs.
Save the final admission document before setting off, and distinguish it from an order receipt. Read the supplier’s arrival instructions and keep your booking available until the visit is over.
For a mixed group, decide who actually wants the climb. Arrange a meeting point afterwards so nobody feels obliged to continue. Wear shoes you trust on stairs and avoid planning another fixed-time entrance immediately after this one.
- Check whether your ticket names the museum as well as the tower.
- Do not assume an evening opening means your daytime ticket is valid then.
- Ask about luggage or pushchair arrangements before bringing them; storage is not confirmed here.
Average visit time
Our planning allowance is around an hour for the tower and museum, plus any queue. This is a suggested pace, not a guaranteed slot length. Leave longer if you prefer to browse the collection slowly or need pauses during the climb.
Treat this as one stop in your day, not a reason to squeeze the next attraction into an exact minute. A flexible meal or walk afterwards is easier to adjust than another prepaid timed visit.
Winter tips
Keep the museum part of your decision if poor visibility would make the viewpoint less rewarding. Check conditions before setting out and allow extra time for a wet-weather approach.
For a Christmas or New Year visit, use the dated exceptions in the hours section. If you are aiming for an evening view, first verify that the seasonal session is operating and that your selected admission covers it.
