History
The natural inlet is part of the landscape of the Riviera Maya rather than a purpose-built swimming pool. Grupo Xcaret acquired the park in November 1994, with preservation work forming part of its later development. The modern visitor park and the nearby archaeological site are different visits; a water-park ticket should not be assumed to include both.
Why Visit
Choose Xel-Há if you would like a day built around snorkelling, floating and breaks beside the water. A broad All-Inclusive package can simplify meals and equipment, but only when that is the category actually booked. Visitors who dislike swimming or prefer archaeological interpretation should think carefully about whether a largely water-based day suits them.
Tickets & Entry Options
Read the chosen category before paying and retain the confirmation showing its inclusions. The All-Inclusive description lists snorkelling equipment, river floating and scheduled dining; these should not be transferred to a cheaper Light category without confirmation. Optional activities and services can remain separately charged even within an inclusive park day. Check any swimming and equipment requirements in advance.
| Option | Includes | Know before booking |
|---|---|---|
| Selected Light or All-Inclusive park admission (opens in a new tab) | The entry and activities expressly listed for the selected category; All-Inclusive adds its listed meals, drinks, equipment, locker and towel. | Light does not automatically include the All-Inclusive food or drink package; transport is excluded. |
Ticket Price
Compare final dated totals only after matching the category and its included food, drinks and equipment. All-Inclusive lists breakfast and lunch during specific service windows, not a restaurant open without time limits. Add your return transport and optional purchases separately. If Light is selected, ask what additional items you will need to pay for onsite.
Opening Hours
Official pages currently disagree about operating days: the Xel-Há FAQ says Monday–Sunday, while the admission page lists Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Both give 08:30–18:00. Confirm that your exact date is offered before booking rather than treating either general list as a dated guarantee. The listed All-Inclusive dining windows are breakfast 09:30–11:30 and lunch 11:30–17:30, subject to the arrangements and category you actually hold.
How to Get There
The park is on the Cancún–Puerto Juárez federal highway around kilometre 240, approximately forty-eight kilometres south of Playa del Carmen and eighteen kilometres north of Tulum according to the operator. It is outside Cancún, and this listing excludes transport. Arrange the return journey as carefully as the outward trip, with time for changing before leaving.
Highlights
Make snorkelling in the inlet and floating along the river the core of your plan, then use breaks to enjoy the setting at a slower pace. Follow the park’s routes and current access rules. Equipment inclusions do not remove the need to listen to staff, wear required safety equipment or respect areas set aside for conservation.
Tips
Bring the identification requested by the booking, swimwear, comfortable footwear and permitted sun protection. The operator restricts sunscreen ingredients, so check its current policy and use protective clothing where appropriate. Confirm swimming suitability and assistance needs before paying. Leave valuables securely stored and keep a dry change for the journey back to your accommodation.
Average Time
Our planning allowance is six to eight hours in the park plus travel. Meals, equipment collection, changing and breaks all take time, so it is not six hours of uninterrupted snorkelling. A later arrival may miss a dining window. Keep the evening flexible rather than booking another demanding timed excursion immediately after the return.
Winter Tips
Carry a light layer and dry clothes for cooler mornings, after swimming and the return journey. Continue using sun protection and check the weather before setting out. Staff may adjust water activities to conditions. Confirm the operating day, particularly the omission of Tuesday from the current official schedule, rather than relying on a general year-round description.
