History

Yehliu’s formations reflect erosion, weathering and the geology of a narrow coastal cape. Jiufen tells a different story as a former gold-mining hillside town. The appeal of joining them is that contrast between a coastal landscape shaped over time and streets shaped by settlement and industry, rather than a single continuous attraction.

Why visit

Choose the tour if you want a broad introduction to the area in one organised day. The trade-off is limited time at each stop and a fixed group departure. Independent travellers who want a long coastal walk or an extended Jiufen evening may prefer another plan. Wet steps and uneven coastal paths are important practical considerations, not just scenery.

Ticket options

The coach-and-guide option excludes Yehliu admission and the lantern activity, so those costs need separate consideration. The more inclusive option lists Yehliu admission, licensed Mandarin/English guiding, air-conditioned local transport, insurance and a shared lantern for three to four people. Meals, drinks and tips are excluded. Do not merge the two meeting points or assume both follow an identical route.

Price and booking

Compare the complete live total, including park entry and any activity you want. A cheaper coach option may be appropriate if you prefer to decide about extras later, but check how payment works. The shared lantern inclusion is not a private lantern for each person. Read the itinerary, weather policy and cancellation conditions for the selected departure.

Opening hours

Yehliu Geopark currently lists daily opening from 08:00 to 17:00. Your guided visit follows the coach timetable rather than providing unlimited time within those hours. Confirm the departure and return times on the voucher. Weather and local safety arrangements can affect coastal access and lantern activities, so treat the published sequence as subject to operating conditions.

Getting there

The coach-and-guide option gives a meeting point at No. 55, Section 1, Zhonghua Road, Wanhua. The option including Yehliu entry and a shared lantern gives Exit 2 of MRT Zhongxiao Xinsheng. Use only the meeting instructions attached to your own booking. Yehliu itself is in Wanli, at No. 167-1 Gangdong Road; that is not a replacement for the Taipei tour meeting point.

Highlights

At Yehliu, follow the marked paths among the rock formations and look at the different shapes rather than only waiting for one famous photograph. In Jiufen, allow time for the hillside lanes and their changing views. The Pingxi-area stop adds another part of the region, but the exact activity and timing depend on the selected itinerary.

Practical tips

Wear shoes with a good grip for wet steps and rock-side paths. Keep behind protective ropes and do not touch or climb the formations. Carry water and money for food, since meals are excluded. Tell the operator about mobility needs before booking; a coach seat does not mean every stop is step-free.

How long to allow

Keep a full day free and confirm the specific departure’s expected duration. Travel, regrouping and several stops make this much longer than a short visit to Yehliu alone. Leave a buffer after the return rather than attaching an immediate onward connection to a road itinerary.

Visiting in winter

The north coast can be windy and rainy in winter, while Jiufen’s steps become slippery. Bring a hooded waterproof layer and secure loose belongings at the cape. Low cloud may obscure hillside views. A lantern activity remains subject to weather, safety and local rules; ask about the selected tour’s arrangements if it cannot proceed.
