Kyoto.

Living heritage. A quieter family stop.

Balance Kyoto’s temples and historic streets with an indoor visit to Kyoto Aquarium in Umekoji Park. Its local river and sea displays make a useful family-friendly stop near Kyoto Station, especially when the weather turns.

Kyoto Aquarium and Umekoji

Aquarium visit

Our suggestion: 2–3 hours

Plan the sequence

Kyoto in one or two days

Keep Kyoto’s fixed entries light and group stops by area. The aquarium works best with Kyoto Station or Umekoji rather than a rushed cross-city sequence.

Half day

Explore the aquarium at an easy pace

Walk from Kyoto Station or use Umekoji-Kyotonishi Station, spend two to three hours inside, then leave room for the park and a relaxed meal.

Plan your Kyoto Aquarium visit

Two days

Separate central and eastern Kyoto

Use one day for the station and Umekoji area. Keep Higashiyama’s temples and lanes together on another day to reduce unnecessary journeys.

Winter or rain

Use the aquarium as a sheltered anchor

Wear layers for the walk through Umekoji Park and allow extra daylight for outdoor sightseeing. The indoor exhibits give the day a reliable centre without overfilling the schedule.
