History: a housing project that became a park
Eusebi Güell commissioned Antoni Gaudí to plan a hillside estate for affluent families. Work began in 1900, but the residential scheme attracted too few buyers and construction stopped in 1914. Its paths and viaducts responded to the steep terrain rather than flattening it.
Barcelona agreed to buy the estate in 1922 and opened it as a municipal park in 1926. That origin helps explain why the landscape feels like the infrastructure of an imagined neighbourhood: an entrance, a square and routes connecting plots that were never fully developed.
Why visit Park Güell
Choose Park Güell for the way architecture meets an outdoor landscape. Instead of moving through a sequence of indoor rooms, you walk between mosaic details, shaded structures and open views. It is a useful contrast to a basilica visit.
Our recommendation is to leave time to look beyond the best-known photo spots. If your day is already packed with timed attractions, reduce the number of bookings rather than treating the park as a quick stop between them.
Tickets and entry options
The two product links below lead to individual tickets. The main Park Güell booking button opens a wider options list. Product details were reviewed on 2 October 2026; select your date and language before paying.
The audio option explicitly excludes the Gaudí House Museum. The guided product does not name museum admission among its inclusions, so do not assume that it is covered. Its stated priority access still requires punctual arrival and the normal entry checks.
| Option | Includes | Know before booking |
|---|---|---|
| Entry Ticket + Audio Guide (opens in a new tab) | Park admission and downloadable commentary for an independent visit. | Gaudí House Museum excluded. Use the time on the final ticket; the listing warns that the allocated slot may shift by up to 30 minutes. |
| Priority Entry Ticket + Guided Tour (opens in a new tab) | Park admission, priority access, an official guide, a 75-minute tour and free time in the park. | Hotel pickup/drop-off and tips excluded. Listed meeting point: Carretera del Carmel 23. Check the booked language and final meeting instructions. |
Ticket price: compare the selected visit
We do not publish a fixed Ticketory price here: the payable total depends on the selected option, date and visitor categories. Compare the final basket for your whole party and read its cancellation terms before purchase.
A guided visit adds a scheduled group experience; downloadable commentary gives you more control over your pace. Pick the format you will use, then compare prices for that same format. The venue requires a ticket even for children eligible for free entry.
Opening hours and timed entry
On 2 November 2026, the official page lists tourist ticket bands from 09:30 to 17:30. This is the advertised ticket-band range for that period, not a permanent closing time or a promise for another visit date. The resident-only period from 18:00 to 22:00 is not additional tourist visiting time; check the date-specific calendar before booking.
Entry is allowed within 30 minutes after the time printed on the ticket; after that, admission is lost. Do not use this as a late-arrival plan for a guided tour, whose meeting time is separate. Once inside, you may stay for your visit within operating hours, but leaving ends your admission: re-entry is not allowed.
How to get there: choose the right entrance
For the guided product above, use Carretera del Carmel 23, Barcelona, unless your final voucher says otherwise. Independent visitors should choose their approach using the park map rather than navigating to a generic centre-of-park pin.
The official route from L3 metro stations Lesseps or Vallcarca takes about 20 minutes on foot. Both approaches lead toward Avinguda del Santuari de Sant Josep de la Muntanya; the Vallcarca route uses the Baixada de la Glòria escalator. H6 and D40 buses stop on Travessera de Dalt, about a ten-minute walk away. Public transport is not included in park admission.
These are walking estimates, not a guarantee that every route is suitable for a wheelchair or stroller. Allow extra time for slopes, stops and finding your gate. Check the venue’s accessibility advice if steps are a concern.
Highlights to build your route around
Use the dragon staircase, Hypostyle Room and mosaic-edged terrace as anchors, then make time for the connecting walkways. Our suggested approach is to alternate close-up architectural details with the wider landscape, rather than queue for one photograph and leave.
The official map says park admission covers the monumental, forest and panoramic areas. The Casa del Guarda is a different building from the Gaudí House Museum: on our review date, the official services page marks Casa del Guarda temporarily closed for maintenance. Do not plan around access to its interior.
Practical tips before you arrive
Save the admission QR code and tour instructions before leaving your accommodation. For an audio visit, prepare a charged phone and headphones. For a live tour, navigate to its meeting point before joining any entrance queue.
Bring water and suitable footwear. The official map identifies toilets, fountains and rest areas, and the park prohibits smoking. Keep the route manageable for children instead of promising to cover every path.
- Follow the final ticket time, not only the requested booking slot.
- Leave a travel buffer between the park and another timed attraction.
- Use designated paths and follow staff instructions around conservation work.
Average time: allow more than the guided portion
Our planning allowance is two to three hours inside the park, plus travel and check-in. This is an editorial estimate for an unhurried visit, not a ticket time limit. The compared live tour lasts 75 minutes; add time if you want to explore independently afterwards.
If combining it with Sagrada Família, allow a proper break and a separate journey. Independent tickets work best when their confirmed times leave room for delays. A combo should explicitly state both admissions and the transfer arrangements.
Winter tips
Our winter recommendation is a daylight slot with time to finish your preferred route comfortably. Check the date-specific booking calendar again rather than carrying the hours above into a later season.
Wear layers and shoes with a reliable grip, and shorten the exposed parts of your walk if the weather turns. Keep an indoor visit on another part of your itinerary; the park is primarily an outdoor experience, so it is not a dependable rainy-day substitute for a museum.
Park Güell ticket questions
Can I arrive at Park Güell whenever I want?
Plan around the confirmed time on your final ticket, rather than the park’s general opening hours. A guided visit also has a separate meeting time and location. Allow for the uphill approach and finding the correct entrance before your admission or tour begins.
Should I choose an audio guide or a live tour?
The compared audio ticket suits an independent pace and includes downloadable commentary. The live guided option adds a 75-minute tour and free time afterwards. Choose the latter for interpretation and a scheduled group experience, and allow more than the guided portion for the whole park visit.
Does a Park Güell ticket include the Gaudí House Museum?
The audio product compared in this guide explicitly excludes the Gaudí House Museum, and the guided product does not list it among its inclusions. Park admission and museum admission should therefore be checked separately. The Casa del Guarda is also a different building from the Gaudí House Museum.
