History: a project spanning generations
Work began in 1882 under Francisco de Paula del Villar. Antoni Gaudí took over in 1883 and transformed the design; from 1914 he devoted himself exclusively to the temple. After his death in 1926, other architects continued the project.
The Nativity façade and crypt received UNESCO recognition in 2005. The church was consecrated as a basilica in 2010. These milestones explain why a visit brings together work from different periods rather than a building finished by one architect.
Why visit Sagrada Família
The interior rewards time spent looking up and moving slowly: branching columns change the scale of the nave, while stained glass changes the character of the light. Our recommendation is to make the basilica itself the priority, then decide whether a guide or tower adds something you want.
An audio visit suits independent pacing. A live guide is useful when you want explanations and questions. The tower is a separate physical experience; choosing a basilica-only visit still leaves the central architectural encounter intact.
Tickets and entry options
The official menu distinguishes entry, guided visits and tower combinations. The table compares three individual Ticketory products reviewed on 2 October 2026. The main booking button opens the broader catalogue; it does not select one of these products for you.
A tower must be explicitly included. Do not infer access from a category description or the word fast-track. That wording also does not remove security screening. Check the final option, language and arrival instructions before paying.
| Option | Includes | Know before booking |
|---|---|---|
| Fast-Track Entry + Audio Guide (opens in a new tab) | Basilica entry, audio commentary and Sagrada Família Museum access in the selected option’s instructions. | Tower access excluded. Other options described on the same page are not automatically included. |
| Fast Track Ticket & Nativity Tower Access (opens in a new tab) | Entry, downloadable audio commentary and access to the Nativity Tower. | No live guide listed. Tower eligibility and the stair descent still apply. |
| Guided Tour + Towers Access (opens in a new tab) | Dedicated entry, live guided visit and one tower. | Hotel transfers excluded. Meeting point listed as Julia Travel, Carrer de Sardenya 311; follow the final voucher. |
Ticket price: compare like-for-like options
Use the current total for your date, group and chosen option on Ticketory. We do not fix a reseller price here or imply that the venue’s own published tariff is the price of a guided package.
Before comparing totals, write down whether the offer includes a live guide, a particular tower and audio commentary. Check the cancellation terms attached to the actual booking. A headline starting price does not confirm availability for your visit.

How to get there and where to meet
The postal address is Carrer de Mallorca 401, Barcelona. For individual admission, the official visitor entrance is on Carrer de la Marina, at the Nativity façade. Metro lines L2 and L5 serve Sagrada Família station.
A tour meeting point can be on a different street. The guided tower product in the table names Carrer de Sardenya 311, so heading directly to the admission queue could mean missing check-in. Save the final meeting instructions and leave time to walk around the block.
Highlights inside and around the basilica
Compare the elaborate Nativity façade with the angular Passion façade, then take time inside to follow the columns toward the vaults. Look at the coloured light as part of the architecture rather than only a photograph to collect. The on-site museum adds context about the design process.
Tower visitors ascend by lift and descend on foot. Under-six children cannot visit the towers; under-sixteens need an adult. The venue also excludes visitors with reduced mobility and specifies further health and safety restrictions, including pregnancy and vertigo. Read those rules before selecting a tower; it is not an accessible alternative to the basilica floor.
Entry rules and practical tips
The official FAQ says late arrivals cannot enter. Although one product page mentions a 15-minute allowance, plan to the stricter official rule and arrive on time. Tickets are personal and non-transferable; bring official photo ID and any proof required for a discount.
Expect bag checks. The official dress rules prohibit transparent clothing and swimwear and require shorts or skirts to reach at least mid-thigh; shoulders must be covered in the Chapel of the Holy Sacrament. Follow any stricter instructions on your booked tour.
Download your audio content and ticket in advance and bring headphones. There is no suitcase storage; tower lockers are only for temporary storage during that part of the visit. The basilica is accessible apart from its towers. Visitors needing the designated accessible entrance should use entrance B on Carrer de la Marina.
Average time to allow
Our planning estimate is 1.5–2.5 hours, depending on the option and how long you spend with the architecture and museum. This is an editorial allowance, not a promised tour duration. Add check-in and any separate tower appointment to your day plan.
Avoid placing Park Güell immediately before or after this visit. A break gives both places room and reduces the chance that one delay affects a second timed booking. For a combined tour, verify transfers and both admissions explicitly.
Winter tips
Our winter suggestion is to choose a daytime visit with room before the earlier seasonal closing. Check the holiday dates in the hours section and keep your arrival route simple if it is raining.
The venue may close towers for bad weather, maintenance or safety reasons. Do not make the tower view the only reason for the visit, and check with your booking provider how a tower-only cancellation is handled. Carry layers for the approach and keep the indoor basilica visit at the centre of your plan.
Sagrada Família ticket questions
Does a Sagrada Família entry ticket include a tower?
Only if tower access is expressly listed. The basilica-and-audio option compared here excludes towers; the Nativity Tower and guided-tower products add that access separately. Tower visitors go up by lift and come down on foot, with age, mobility and health restrictions. Basilica-only admission still provides the main architectural visit.
Should I choose an audio guide or a live guided visit?
Choose audio if setting your own pace matters most; download the content in advance and bring headphones. A live guide is useful for explanations and questions, so compare the tour language and meeting arrangements. Neither an audio description nor fast-track wording proves that a tower is included in your selected option.
Should I go straight to the Sagrada Família entrance?
That depends on the booking. Individual admission uses the visitor entrance on Carrer de la Marina, while the guided tower product compared here lists a meeting at Carrer de Sardenya 311. Follow the final voucher rather than joining a convenient queue. Plan to arrive on time: the official FAQ says late arrivals cannot enter.
Practical details can change. Check your selected Ticketory booking for current prices, opening arrangements, accessibility and entry instructions. Suggested timings and routes are our planning advice, not a guaranteed schedule.
